Flex Photo Gallery – in house development

You may hire out as a development company specialized in coldfusion for a designer… That designer may know flash, and and maybe they know a lot about design, and color schemes.

You just can’t beat in house development

For Example, Coldfusion can generate dynamic pdf files. Coldfusion used to be owned by Macromedia… Do you think that since Adobe (KING OF PDF) now owns coldfusion, and Adobe Acrobat, that the pdf generation isn’t better? Do you think the developers that created the pdf generation weren’t psyched to hear about the merge? (besides the fear of losing their jobs…)

My point is, that we received a flash photo gallery that a designer found online, and used it as their own… and thats okay, we do the same things when we need to. I’m not at all saying the designer did a bad job, they did a great job… but when the customer didn’t like something, or we had to customize it, the designer wasn’t able to do so… and the support was bad…

We rebuilt the Photo Gallery that the designer had given us in less than a day with Flex, and now we are able to customize to our liking.

Like I said… you don’t really want to turn down a customer that is asking for something that shouldn’t be that hard to do… You would love to be able to say yes to everyone, and have it not take a million hours… or work arounds to do… and thats why in house development is awesome.

How are you generating your pictures.xml file?

  2. admin:

We’re not… I’ve been asked this before, and I don’t have a tool for it or anything… We took the xml schema from another flash based photo gallery that we needed to tweak, and so i just rebuilt it in flex in a few hours because we didn’t have the .fla file to adjust the flash.
